Red and white blocks with red feedsack fabrics. White half of block quilted with either a half sun or maple leaf design. Border material is very faded brown and white stripe with small flowers. Backing is brown print. This quilt has lots of fabric wear and damage - especially in the backing and binding. There is no seam separation, which speaks to the quality of the work, however all the fabrics has fading and thinning, or holes and frays - see photos. Would make a good cutter quilt.
Construction is 7 blocks across and 9 blocks down. Top border is more narrow than other sides and is quilted in a chevron pattern. Side and bottom borders are quilted in a vine pattern - see photos for detail. Hand pieced, quilted and bound.
In researching Lady of the Lake quilt patterns via Google search, there is reference on the website TopAnchorQuilting.com to the Lady of the Lake quilt blocks being named for a poem by Sir Walter Scott that was published in 1810.
Found in Lancaster County, PA.
Quilt measures 78" X 88". Block size is 8" X 8" with 3.75". Thin batting, if any.
